Jazz and Pop Performance

Different styles of pop music and jazz need to be assessed differently. There are three main categories:

Execution How well you play your instrument. Technical facility, tone and intonation are all areas that are included, though the style will of music is taken into account. A country fiddler or ska saxophonist are not necssarily expected to use orthodox intonation, but rather something appropriate to the style.

Image This category includes appropriate clothes, engagement with the audience, stage movement and general charisma

Production This category includes original arrangements, improvisation and composition as well as general stage production. In the past students have used lighting effects, dry ice and dancers.
